Introduction
About zADE – IBM Z Advance Development Environment is a software emulation product that delivers one or more System z processors (including several emulated I/O device types) on Intel and s390 architecture platforms. It emulates a System z machine on an Intel-compatible PC as well as on IBM Z Mainframe systems running Linux. The solution is designed for development, test, education, and demonstrations, and it is not intended for production use.
This role is within the z Engineering development team focused on emulating zSeries hardware feature behavior across Intel and s390 architectures. The candidate will join a worldwide team responsible for developing and supporting zADE features using C and C++ in a Linux environment. You will collaborate with Architecture and verification teams to implement and test features. The role requires strong systems programming experience and an interest in developing a deep understanding of processor architecture, end-to-end performance analysis, and problem determination. Prior experience contributing to open-source projects is desirable. We follow Agile practices that emphasize transparent, open, and collaborative work and design, while also expecting individuals to work with a meaningful degree of autonomy and responsibility.

Your Role And Responsibilities
As an individual contributor, you will play a key role in developing and maintaining a System z emulation environment that delivers processor and I/O device emulation on Intel and s390 architectures.
You will advance the platform through new feature development, defect resolution, and modernization initiatives. You will also contribute to core components including CPU emulation, I/O subsystems, networking, security, cryptography, and licensing services.

Required Technical And Professional Expertise
- Overall, 12-18 years of IT experience
- 7+ years of experience with C and C++ programming, ASM (Assembler) programming
- Strong Development Engineer who has demonstrated experience in operating systems project development, designing, unit testing and defect fixing.
- Strong knowledge in System Architecture components (CPU, Memory, IO, Filesystem); ISA - Basic CPU and IO Instructions,
- Understanding of Virtual machines and Virtualization technologies, Interrupts, IPC etc
- Git/Gerrit working knowledge.
- Development and debugging experience on Linux / UNIX
- Solid Analytical & problem solving, debugging skills - identify the root cause of issues
- Strong Communication skills
- Willingness and ability to learn new technology including tooling and ramp up in a short span.
- Understanding and experience with multiple processor architectures (System s390 and X86)
- Professional experience in Assembly programming
- Knowledge of zOS environment and debugging programs on zOS
- Knowledge of z/OS, z/VM, z/VSE, Linux on Z
- Experience with Open-source development tools and projects
