SAP Technical Architect

We are seeking a seasoned SAP Technical Architect to deliver comprehensive technical architecture and governance for SAP cloud deployments, primarily focusing on SAP SuccessFactors, SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP), SAP Integration Suite / Cloud Integration (CPI), SAP Cloud Identity Services – IAS and IPS, alongside APIs, extensions, and enterprise integrations. This role involves collaboration across various SAP projects, serving as the technical authority managing the overall solution architecture. The architect will ensure that SuccessFactors and other SAP solutions are integrated securely, effectively, and in alignment with established SAP architectural and development standards. This position transcends a traditional integration-development role; the ideal candidate must possess a holistic understanding of the SAP cloud technical ecosystem and guide functional consultants, integration developers, BTP developers, infrastructure/security teams, and customer IT departments.

Key Responsibilities

1. Comprehensive SAP Technical Architecture

• Establish and manage the end-to-end technical architecture for SAP implementation initiatives.
• Provide technical oversight for SAP SuccessFactors, S/4HANA, BTP, Integration Suite, IAS, IPS, and other SAP/non-SAP applications.
• Evaluate solution designs to ensure they adhere to SAP architectural recommendations, security protocols, and integration standards.
• Identify technical risks, interdependencies, and architectural deficiencies during both design and implementation phases.
• Serve as the technical escalation resource for intricate cross-system challenges.

2. SAP SuccessFactors Technical Architecture

• Oversee the technical architecture for SAP SuccessFactors implementations.
• Comprehend SuccessFactors APIs, OData services, Compound Employee API, Integration Center, Intelligent Services, MDF, scheduled integrations, and file-based interfaces.
• Instruct teams on the proper application of standard SuccessFactors functionalities versus BTP extensions or custom integrations.
• Support technical design across modules such as Employee Central, Payroll, Time, Recruitment, Onboarding, Performance, Compensation, and Learning.
• Review technical specifications and integration designs produced by both functional and technical teams.

3. SAP BTP Architecture

• Design and oversee solutions developed on the SAP Business Technology Platform.
• Define the appropriate application of BTP services, including: SAP Integration Suite, Cloud Integration / CPI, API Management, SAP Build, BTP extension applications, Destination Service, Connectivity Service, Cloud Connector, and event-driven integration services.
• Outline BTP account, subaccount, environment, and connectivity architecture as needed.
• Ensure clear separation between development, testing, and production environments.

4. Integration Architecture – CPI / Integration Suite

• Construct enterprise integration architecture utilizing SAP Integration Suite / CPI.
• Establish integration patterns, including synchronous, asynchronous, API-based, event-driven, and batch/file integrations.
• Review and provide direction for CPI interface development.
• Set reusable integration standards, including naming conventions, error handling, logging, and monitoring frameworks.
• Evaluate interfaces between SuccessFactors and systems such as: SAP S/4HANA / ERP, SAP Employee Central Payroll, Active Directory / Entra ID, Payroll providers, Time and attendance systems, Benefits providers, Banks, Government systems, Learning systems, Recruitment platforms, and other third-party enterprise applications.
• Encourage API-led integration and the use of standard SAP APIs whenever applicable.

5. Identity & Access Architecture – IAS / IPS

• Manage or supervise the technical setup and administration of SAP Cloud Identity Services.
• Configure and govern Identity Authentication Service (IAS) and Identity Provisioning Service (IPS).
• Design authentication and SSO architecture across SAP cloud solutions.
• Implement SAML, OAuth, OpenID Connect, and certificate-based authentication as necessary.
• Design processes for user provisioning and de-provisioning.
• Assist in the migration from SuccessFactors to IAS and in Identity Authentication integration.
• Troubleshoot authentication, provisioning, and authorization challenges.
• Collaborate with corporate identity platforms such as Microsoft Entra ID / Active Directory.

6. Security & Technical Governance

• Establish technical standards and architectural principles for SAP projects.
• Ensure that integrations and extensions adhere to enterprise security mandates.
• Assess authentication, authorization, encryption, certificate management, and credential management strategies.
• Guarantee that credentials and sensitive data are adequately secured using SAP-recommended services.
• Participate in technical security assessments and architecture review boards.
• Support audit and compliance mandates as needed.

7. Technical Design & Quality Assurance

• Review:
• Solution Architecture Documents
• Technical Design Documents
• Functional Specifications
• Interface Specifications
• API specifications
• Security designs
• Data-flow diagrams
• Infrastructure/connectivity designs
• Ensure that technical documentation includes sufficient implementation-level detail.
• Conduct technical design assessments prior to the commencement of development.
• Perform architecture and code-quality evaluations for critical developments.
• Ascertain that solutions are scalable, maintainable, and supportable post-launch.

8. Troubleshooting & Production Support

• Lead the resolution of intricate technical issues involving multiple SAP and third-party systems.
• Assist project teams during SIT, UAT, cutover, and production stabilization phases.
• Examine interface failures, authentication problems, API challenges, certificate issues, and performance bottlenecks.
• Establish monitoring and operational support protocols for integrations and BTP applications.
• Provide technical support to AMS/support teams for critical incidents.

9. Technical Leadership

• Offer architectural guidance and mentorship to:
• BTP developers
• CPI developers
• SuccessFactors technical consultants
• Integration consultants
• Functional consultants
• Project managers
• Collaborate closely with Solution Architects and Functional Leads to convert business requirements into technically feasible solutions.
• Challenge unnecessary customizations and advocate for SAP-standard methodologies whenever possible.
• Support presales teams with solution architecture, estimations, technical presentations, and customer discussions.

Required Experience

• Approximately 8–12+ years of SAP technical/integration expertise, with considerable experience in SAP cloud implementations.
• Strong practical or architectural-level experience with SAP BTP.
• Extensive experience with SAP Integration Suite / Cloud Integration (CPI).
• Deep understanding of SAP SuccessFactors technical architecture and integrations.
• Experience in SAP IAS and IPS administration and implementation.
• Proficient in designing enterprise-level integrations between SAP and non-SAP systems.
• Solid knowledge of: REST APIs, OData, SOAP, SFTP, XML / JSON, OAuth 2.0, SAML 2.0, OpenID Connect, Certificates, and encryption.
• Understanding of cloud security, identity management, and enterprise integration architecture.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex issues across application, integration, identity, and network layers.
