AtkinsRéalis is seeking Lead/Principal Engineers within Mechanical and Process engineering disciplines, with extensive experience in water and wastewater treatment. UK water industry experience is highly preferable. This role requires a minimum of 12 years of experience.
Your role
- Lead and direct teams delivering technical design work in accordance with relevant design standards and codes, achieving high-quality outcomes.
- Develop briefs, define scopes of work, and lead bid proposals.
- Manage time and budgets to ensure delivery against key project milestones and programmes.
- Collaborate with teams in the UK and overseas to provide integrated design solutions.
- Establish and maintain quality assurance standards for design.
- Build, develop, and manage electrical engineering capability across the practice.
- Apply comprehensive knowledge of mechanical equipment—including pumps, blowers, screens, and chemical dosing plant—alongside a deep understanding of current UK design standards and working practices.
- Demonstrate strong technical leadership in multidisciplinary delivery.
- Maintain a winning work mindset to grow AtkinsRéalis' client portfolio.
- Support and develop digital design tools, including unit process sizing and other automated design tools.
- Produce technical reports at all stages of the project lifecycle.
- Communicate with clients across the UK, Middle East, Hong Kong, USA, Canada, etc.
- Understand and apply HAZOP, DSEAR, CDM, WIMES, British and European Standards, and other statutory, regulatory and non-regulatory provisions and guidance.
- Meet and exceed project quality, programme, budgetary and H&S requirements.
- Contribute to new innovative ideas and suggest opportunities for innovation.
- Opportunity to present your project work at company meetings or at conferences.
- Coordinate effectively with wider teams on multidisciplinary projects.
- Bachelor's degree in relevant engineering discipline is mandatory. Master's degree in relevant engineering discipline would be preferable.
- 12+ years of work experience in the Water industry. UK water industry experience would be preferable.
- Chartered or working towards chartership.
- Experience in owning design delivery, including multidisciplinary design.
