Job Title – Forward Deployed Engineer

Location: Singapore

Contract Duration: 12 months (with potential for extension)

ROLE OVERVIEW

The Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) serves as a pivotal technical expert, navigating the complexities of business challenges while leveraging platform capabilities. Unlike traditional engineers, the FDE proactively engages with stakeholders, identifies problems, and formulates solutions grounded in first principles.

In this role, you will collaborate directly with tenant teams to gain insights into their operational processes, convert those insights into detailed technical designs, and create and implement AI-enhanced automation, intelligent solutions, and platform integrations that yield significant outcomes.

This position requires a balanced proficiency in both business process design and technical execution. You should feel equally at ease conducting a workflow discovery session with non-technical participants as you are in setting up a cloud pipeline or orchestrating LLM agent processes. You serve as a bridge between business needs and platform capabilities.

WHAT YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

Business Process Mapping & Discovery

•    Conduct structured discovery sessions with tenant teams to identify operational challenges, manual processes, and automation opportunities.

•    Convert unstructured business needs into process maps, workflow diagrams, and solution blueprints using methodologies like BPMN and value stream mapping.

•    Document current and future states clearly enough for both business approval and technical execution.

Agent & Workflow Design

•    Craft comprehensive agentic workflows — outlining triggers, decision-making logic, tool usage, human-in-the-loop checkpoints, and failure responses — prior to any coding.

•    Design AI agent solutions utilizing in-boundary models, ensuring that all data and inference stay within the classified environment.

•    Assess where automation is beneficial versus where human judgment is essential; design solutions accordingly.

Technical Implementation

•    Create and deploy solutions on cloud-native infrastructure; demonstrate fluency in containerized environments and understand the provisioning, scaling, and securing of applications at the platform level.

•    Develop system integrations — including APIs, event-driven triggers, and workflow automations — with a solid grasp of data flow, error handling, and operational resilience.

•    Write production-quality code; develop components that are maintainable, well-documented, and extendable by others beyond your involvement in the project.

•    Operate within restricted or air-gapped network environments; comprehend the security limitations that dictate what can be built, data movement, and how AI services should be scoped.

•    Implement your solution designs into functional executions without needing a separate development team to carry out the work.

Stakeholder Engagement & Delivery

•    Present solution designs to both technical leaders and business stakeholders; articulate trade-offs transparently without resorting to technical jargon.

•    Oversee the delivery of your own workstream from discovery through deployment and handover.

•    Generate documentation that empowers tenants to operate and expand solutions autonomously.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential — Eligibility

•    Singapore Citizen

•    Must be able to secure and maintain MSD CAT 1 security clearance

Essential — Technical Skills

•    Fundamentals of cloud infrastructure — capable of provisioning, configuring, and troubleshooting cloud resources; knowledgeable in networking, IAM, and compute concepts across various providers.

•    Understanding of containerization and orchestration — familiar with deploying and managing containerized workloads in enterprise settings.

•    Proficiency in at least one backend programming language (Python preferred); capable of writing production-level code, not just proof-of-concept scripts.

•    Adherence to DevSecOps practices — employing version control, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code as integral parts of daily work, rather than afterthoughts.

•    Basic knowledge of LLM application development — understands how to scope, create, and constrain AI-driven workflows; recognizes what decisions should be left to models and which should not.

Essential — Business & Process Skills

•    Ability to independently facilitate process discovery and requirements gathering sessions with non-technical stakeholders.

•    Expertise in documenting processes and workflows — including BPMN, swim-lane diagrams, data flow diagrams, or similar methodologies.

•    Experience in mapping existing processes and designing future states with clear, justified rationale for changes.

•    Strong verbal and written communication skills; capable of producing artifacts that serve both business sign-off and technical specifications.

Essential — Mindset & Approach

•    Ability to navigate ambiguous, fast-paced environments where requirements are discovered rather than provided.

•    Proactive ownership — you manage your workstream to completion independently.

•    Security-aware by default; understands the implications of operating within a classified or restricted-data context.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

•    Previous experience in a government, defense, or public sector IT environment within Singapore.

•    Familiarity with classified or restricted-data settings.

•    Experience with service management platforms (e.g., ITSM) and knowledge of ITIL processes.

•    Understanding of AI safety and governance practices relevant to in-boundary AI deployments.

•    Familiarity with platform engineering concepts — developer portals, self-service provisioning, golden path templates.

•    Solid understanding of technical principles for designs.

•    Effective communication skills — capable of conveying details and concepts to varied audiences.
