Business Application Analyst (Banking Sector)

The Senior Business Application Analyst role is part of the Market Risk systems initiative, focusing on Value at Risk (VaR), IRC calculations, daily Profit and Loss (PnL) production and attribution, risk consolidation, regulatory reporting, and Prudent Valuation calculations and adjustments. This position ensures that the firm's trading book exposures are conservatively assessed and fully compliant with relevant capital and valuation standards.

The primary technology stack for this role includes Apache Spark on HDFS, with Java being the main programming language. Key Responsibilities

Functional Expertise & Analysis

• Develop and maintain comprehensive functional knowledge of Market Risk applications
• Collaborate with Front Office, Risk Managers, Quantitative Analysts, and IT stakeholders to collect, clarify, and document business requirements
• Evaluate the functional implications of changes in partnership with the technical lead, considering system and architectural limitations
• Create, present, and document functional specifications and user stories in JIRA, ensuring alignment with business needs and regulatory standards
• Assist the development team on functional issues and keep functional documentation current
• Exhibit a solid understanding of risk consolidation workflows, regulatory reporting processes, and market data management in a banking context

Functional Testing

• Establish and manage the test strategy in collaboration with the Application Manager
• Conduct ongoing testing in development environments, create functional unit and system test cases, and maintain test artifacts throughout the project lifecycle
• Coordinate User Acceptance Testing (UAT) prioritization with the Project Manager and support production deployments through post-deployment validation checks

Application Support - Functional Incidents

• Provide Level 2 functional support for issues escalated from Level 1
• Reproduce, analyze, and investigate functional problems related to risk calculations and market data
• Resolve functional issues in collaboration with developers and perform ad hoc simulations and impact analyses for Front Office users

Qualifications and Profile

• Master's or bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Systems Analysis, or a related field
• Over 10 years of experience as a Senior Business Analyst in the Market Risk sector of a banking institution, with practical knowledge in VaR, IRC, PnL calculations, risk consolidation, regulatory reporting, and Prudent Valuation
• Strong technical background in data models and SQL, with the capability to conduct ad hoc data analysis and impact simulations for Front Office users
• Proven track record as the functional liaison among Front Office, Risk Managers, Quantitative Analysts, and IT stakeholders, effectively connecting onshore business lines with offshore technical teams
• Extensive experience in requirements gathering, creating detailed functional specifications and user stories in JIRA, and presenting functional changes to development teams in accordance with FRTB, Basel III/IV, and CRR/EBA regulatory guidelines
• In-depth knowledge of functional testing and validation, including writing unit test cases, maintaining test artifacts, managing UAT, and performing post-deployment production checks to ensure the integrity of risk outputs
• Demonstrated expertise in Level 2 application support, encompassing issue reproduction, root cause analysis, and resolution of calculation and data discrepancies in collaboration with developers
• Practical experience utilizing AI-driven tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, generative AI assistants) to enhance productivity and problem-solving
• Solid understanding of AI/ML fundamentals, including prompt engineering, model limitations, and best practices for effective human-AI collaboration
• Experience in evaluating AI-generated outputs for accuracy, security, and alignment with business needs
• Aptitude for identifying and implementing opportunities for AI integration and workflow automation
