Engineering Manager / Lead Software Engineer

We are seeking an Engineering Manager / Lead Software Engineer to tackle intricate and impactful technical challenges within the public sector, spearheading digital transformation efforts that enhance lives on a large scale.

In this position, you will take charge of establishing the technical vision, refining engineering methodologies, and ensuring the successful delivery of one or more products managed by your team. Additionally, you will play a pivotal role in fostering an engineering culture that prioritizes excellence, collaboration, and enduring impact.

Key Responsibilities:

• Formulating your team's engineering vision, strategy, and roadmap in alignment with the overarching objectives of the organization.
• Keeping abreast of industry advancements, with a robust understanding of optimal system architecture, engineering, and maintenance at scale.
• Designing and overseeing the implementation of systems across SaaS solutions, utilizing cloud technologies when applicable.
• Collaborating with stakeholders to prioritize and manage product roadmaps, ensuring steady and effective progress towards the long-term vision.
• Developing and sustaining a technical plan that anticipates future product and infrastructure requirements.
• Mentoring and coaching engineers through consistent feedback, promoting professional growth and career advancement.
• Championing the adoption of best practices in areas such as quality, reliability, performance, and security within your teams.
• Promoting a robust engineering culture and integrating tools/processes that enhance effectiveness and impact.
• Proactively identifying and initiating high-value engineering projects that serve the public good.
• Participating in the recruitment process, particularly for senior technical positions.

Qualifications:

• Demonstrated experience in building and managing large, high-availability software systems at scale.
• A minimum of 10 years in development roles, including over 5 years of experience in coaching and mentoring engineering teams of 5 or more members.
• Proficient in modern full-stack application development, covering contemporary front-end frameworks and scalable backend services across various programming languages.
• Hands-on technical knowledge spanning the technology stack, including infrastructure, client-side, backend services, APIs, databases, performance, and data management.
• Solid foundation in end-to-end system development, from user interfaces to backend and integration layers.
• Familiar with Agile methodologies, modular design, automation techniques, TDD, CI/CD pipelines, pair programming, and infrastructure automation.
• Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) and container technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
• Strong grasp of engineering leadership, integrating technical acumen with the interpersonal skills necessary to inspire and guide teams.
• Enthusiasm for engineering excellence, collaboration, and making a meaningful impact through technology.
• Proven ability to lead teams towards achieving ambitious collective goals.
