Data Center Engineer (Location: North East, Shift Allowance Provided)

We are partnering with a government technology organization in search of a Data Centre Operations Support specialist to oversee the daily operations, maintenance, and security of its data centre facilities and IT infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and sustain critical data centre infrastructure, which includes UPS, PDUs, cooling systems, fire suppression systems, and environmental monitoring solutions.
• Regularly check and manage temperature, humidity, water leakage, and other environmental factors to guarantee operational efficiency.
• Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to identify and rectify infrastructure and facility-related issues.
• Assist with facility maintenance, equipment installations, cable management, and general upkeep of the data centre.
• Supervise and manage physical security systems, including access control, CCTV, visitor management, and escort responsibilities.
• Keep security logs, access records, and report any incidents or irregularities related to security.
• Monitor the health of IT systems and infrastructure, conducting basic troubleshooting and supporting system administration tasks.
• Aid in backup, disaster recovery, incident management, service requests, and change management processes.
• Conduct basic security checks, track security alerts, and assist in managing user access.
• Maintain comprehensive data centre documentation, infrastructure records, asset registers, maintenance logs, and operational reports.
• Engage with external partners and suppliers concerning operational and security issues.

Qualifications

• A Diploma or Degree in IT, Facilities Management, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• At least 4 years of experience in IT operations, infrastructure support, or data centre management.
• Solid understanding of data centre infrastructure, IT operations, and security protocols.
• Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or GCIH are advantageous.
• Must be willing to work on a shift basis and respond to operational emergencies as needed.
• Shift allowances are available.
