z/OS System programmer

Job Description:

• A minimum of 12 years of experience in a professional capacity as a Mainframe System Programmer specializing in zOS ISVs

Key Responsibilities:

• Execute standard system programming tasks, including configuration installation and maintenance using SMP E and vendor software installations within the mainframe setting
• Conduct Operating System upgrades and RSU maintenance through z OSMF Workflow
• Install and configure complex z OS environments and third-party software as an Advanced System Management Architect
• Facilitate Software Standardization and the implementation of new features
• Provide support in storage management, performance tuning, capacity planning, security, networking, and operating procedures from a zOS perspective for the team
• Collaborate with Mainframe System Programmers across various tracks to improve the mainframe infrastructure
• Assist team members in troubleshooting, driving innovative improvements, and making informed decisions
• Identify and execute system and process enhancements in the z OS environment, collaborating with application support teams and other internal stakeholders to support business objectives

Technical Requirements:

• Essential technical skills required
• Proficiency in executing SMP E and Non-SMPE installations of ISV products
• Extensive experience with IBM and Broadcom Software product installations and upgrades
• In-depth knowledge of z OS system commands, utilities, and automation tools
• Operating System expertise in z OS V2
• A minimum of five upgrades or later utilizing z OSMF workflow execution
• IODF HCD skillset for adding new devices
• Familiarity with Sysplex and configuration management is preferred
• Proficient in JCL and IBM Utilities, including IEBGENER, IEBCOPY, AMASPZAP, and DFDSS
• Experienced with ISPF, TSO, and other basic tools
• Basic understanding of REXX and CLIST
• Ability to design project plans for upgrades, maintenance, and decommissioning with comprehensive task lists for all stakeholders, ensuring clear communication of timelines with delivery and customers
• Develop roadmaps that include all prerequisites necessary to achieve project completion
