Part-Time School Counsellor (Yishun)

Responsibilities

• Provide counselling interventions for secondary school students to help address personal, social, emotional, and behavioural needs
• Develop and sustain positive, professional relationships with students to build trust and encourage active engagement
• Contribute to teachers’ professional development by sharing relevant counselling knowledge, insights, and strategies when required
• Educate and support student peer supporters by equipping them with knowledge of adolescent issues to strengthen their ability to help peers
• Coach peer supporters to identify students who may require additional counselling support
• Run and support discussions on topics including online bullying, stress management, and relationship skills to promote overall student well-being
• Refer students who need further or specialised support to the designated school counsellor for follow-up
• Keep comprehensive, accurate, and confidential records of counselling sessions and related documentation
• Undertake other tasks assigned by the school to support student welfare and school objectives

Required competencies and certifications

• Diploma or Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Youth Work, or a related Social Science discipline
• At least 3 years of counselling experience with youths aged 12 to 18 in schools, residential homes, or community centres
• Ability to build rapport and communicate effectively with youths while maintaining professional boundaries
• Ability to stay calm, empathetic, and patient in high-stress or confrontational situations
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, and Outlook
• Commitment to completing the full contract period and adhering to the specified working schedule

Preferred competencies and qualifications

• Experience in supporting students who require sustained follow-up and ongoing counselling support
• Resilience and teamwork capabilities to collaborate effectively within the school environment

Other Information

• Work Location: Yishun
• Contract Period: 1 January 2027 to 29 October 2027
• Working Days: Tuesday to Thursday
• Working Hours: 8:00am to 3:00pm, including a 1-hour lunch break
• Work Arrangement: On-site
