Openshift Engineer
Job Description
The OpenShift Engineer will play a pivotal role in the design, deployment, security, and maintenance of Red Hat OpenShift container platforms within the insurance sector. This position demands substantial hands-on expertise in Kubernetes, OpenShift clusters (including ROSA, ARO, and On-Prem), Operators, GitOps, CI/CD, and platform automation. The engineer will work in conjunction with Cloud, DevOps, Security, and Application teams to provide secure, scalable, and compliant container solutions that support essential insurance functions such as claims processing, underwriting, policy administration, and digital customer interfaces.
Platform Engineering & Deployment
Deploy, configure, and manage OpenShift clusters (on-premises, ROSA, ARO, or hybrid environments).
Oversee the cluster lifecycle, including upgrades, Operators, MachineSets, and node scaling. Configure networking within OpenShift (Ingress, Routes, Service Mesh, SDN).
Design and implement multi-tenant architectures tailored for insurance workloads.
Automation & CI/CD
Automate cluster provisioning with tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Helm, and GitOps (ArgoCD, OpenShift GitOps).
Integrate OpenShift with CI/CD workflows (Tekton, Jenkins, GitLab CI). Develop reusable automation modules for cluster upgrades, patching, and onboarding applications.
Security & Compliance
Establish OpenShift security protocols (SCCs, RBAC, NetworkPolicies, Pod Security).
Ensure adherence to insurance regulatory standards (auditability, data protection, workload isolation). Incorporate image scanning, secure supply chain practices, and vulnerability oversight.
Monitoring & Reliability
Set up monitoring solutions using Prometheus, Grafana, OpenShift Monitoring, and Logging.
Diagnose cluster-related issues (networking, storage, Operators, workloads). Implement backup and disaster recovery strategies for OpenShift applications.
Collaboration & Governance
Engage with App-Dev teams to onboard microservices and transform legacy insurance applications.
Collaborate with Security and Cloud teams to uphold governance, tagging, and policy frameworks. Maintain documentation for platform architecture, standard operating procedures, and incident root cause analysis reports.
OpenShift & Kubernetes
Extensive experience with OpenShift 4.x, Operators, MachineSets, SCCs, Routes, and GitOps methodologies.
Comprehensive understanding of Kubernetes architecture, networking, RBAC, storage, and workload management. Familiarity with Helm, Kustomize, YAML, and CI/CD processes.
Cloud & Infrastructure
Practical experience with AWS, Azure, vSphere, or hybrid OpenShift deployments.
Knowledge of container registries (Quay, ECR, ACR, Docker Hub).
DevOps & Automation
Proficient in Terraform, Ansible, Git, CI/CD pipelines, and automation scripting (Python, Bash).
Experience with service mesh technologies (Istio), ingress controllers, and API gateways.
Security & Compliance
Understanding of SCCs, Pod Security, OPA/Gatekeeper, image scanning, and secure supply chain methodologies.
Familiarity with compliance requirements specific to the insurance industry (audit logs, data residency, workload isolation).
Non-Technical Requirements
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Exceptional communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams. Capability to convey platform concepts to business stakeholders.
High adaptability and a commitment to staying updated with OpenShift and Kubernetes advancements.
Preferred Certifications
Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Administration
Red Hat Certified Specialist in Containers & Kubernetes
Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
Solid foundation in OpenShift technologies.
CKA (Certified Kubernetes Administrator)
CKAD (Certified Kubernetes Application Developer)
HashiCorp Terraform Associate
Strong sense of ownership, accountability, and a collaborative mindset.
Ability to spearhead platform modernization projects.
Proactive approach to enhancing platform reliability and the developer experience.
