VMware VCF (VMware Cloud Foundation) Engineer

The VMware VCF (VMware Cloud Foundation) Engineer is tasked with the design, implementation, and maintenance of the organization's private cloud infrastructure, leveraging VMware Cloud Foundation technology. This position demands extensive knowledge of vSphere, vSAN, NSX‑T, SDDC Manager, and lifecycle automation. The engineer will work closely with teams in Cloud, Security, Networking, and Applications to create secure, resilient, and compliant infrastructure platforms that support essential insurance operations, including claims processing, underwriting, policy administration, and actuarial functions.

VCF Platform Engineering

Implement, configure, and sustain VMware Cloud Foundation components (vSphere, vSAN, NSX‑T, SDDC Manager).

Oversee workload domains, cluster creation, host commissioning, and lifecycle management. Establish VCF architecture that ensures high availability, scalability, and disaster recovery capabilities.

Administer vCenter, ESXi hosts, vSAN storage policies, and NSX‑T networking.

Automation & Lifecycle Management

Utilize SDDC Manager for patching, upgrades, and lifecycle automation across VCF components.

Automate provisioning through PowerCLI, Python, and Terraform. Enforce configuration standards and compliance checks throughout clusters.

Networking & Security

Set up NSX‑T for micro‑segmentation, distributed firewalls, overlay networks, and load balancing solutions.

Develop network security policies in accordance with insurance regulations. Integrate VCF with external firewalls, identity management systems, and monitoring solutions.

Storage & Performance

Oversee vSAN clusters, storage policies, fault domains, and performance optimization.

Diagnose vSAN health problems, latency issues, and cluster imbalances. Fine-tune storage for insurance-related workloads (claims processing, policy management, analytics).

Monitoring & Reliability

Establish monitoring solutions using vRealize Operations, Log Insight, or Tanzu Observability.

Resolve issues related to ESXi, NSX‑T, vSAN, and SDDC Manager. Implement backup and disaster recovery strategies using SRM, vSphere Replication, or third-party tools.

Collaboration & Governance

Collaborate with Cloud and Security teams to uphold governance, tagging, and compliance frameworks.

Partner with Application Development teams to migrate workloads to the VCF-based private cloud. Document platform architecture, standard operating procedures, and root cause analysis reports.

VMware Cloud Foundation

Extensive experience with VCF architecture, workload domains, SDDC Manager, and lifecycle automation.

Advanced knowledge of vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, vSAN, and NSX‑T.

Networking & Security

Proficient in NSX‑T (distributed firewall, micro‑segmentation, Tier‑0/Tier‑1 gateways, overlay networks).

Comprehensive understanding of network segmentation, firewalling, and compliance requirements specific to the insurance sector.

Automation & DevOps

Experience with PowerCLI, Python, Terraform, and automation frameworks.

Knowledge of Git, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code methodologies.

Monitoring & Operations

Proficient in vRealize Operations, Log Insight, and capacity management.

Exceptional troubleshooting capabilities across compute, network, and storage layers.

Excellent verbal and written communication, with a focus on cross-team collaboration. Ability to convey infrastructure concepts to business stakeholders.
