Infrastructure Management (Chef & Terraform)

Job Overview

We are in search of a knowledgeable Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Infrastructure Management to enhance our team. The perfect candidate will possess a wealth of experience and practical expertise in infrastructure management and automation, specifically utilizing Chef and Terraform. This position entails the design, deployment, and upkeep of scalable, dependable, and efficient infrastructure solutions across diverse environments. The SME will work in tandem with development, operations, and cloud teams to apply industry best practices in infrastructure automation, configuration management, and resource provisioning.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct the design, implementation, and automation of infrastructure leveraging Chef and Terraform.
• Create and manage Chef cookbooks, recipes, and roles for effective infrastructure configuration and maintenance.
• Develop, test, and deploy Terraform modules for provisioning both cloud and on-premises environments.
• Adopt infrastructure as code (IaC) methodologies to enhance provisioning, management, and scaling of infrastructure.
• Establish and maintain templates and policies for the creation and management of cloud resources via Terraform.
• Utilize Chef for configuration management, automating server setup, deployment, and patching processes.
• Maintain consistency across different environments by managing infrastructure as code.
• Oversee monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimization of infrastructure using configuration management tools.
• Collaborate closely with DevOps, Cloud, and Network teams to align infrastructure objectives and deliverables.
• Ensure infrastructure adheres to relevant standards, including data protection and regulatory measures.
• Evaluate and enhance infrastructure performance to reduce downtime and increase efficiency.
• Assist with incident management and resolve issues associated with infrastructure provisioning and maintenance.
• Identify and implement enhancements to boost automation, efficiency, and system reliability.

Qualifications and Skills

• 5+ years of experience in Infrastructure Management, DevOps, or Systems Engineering.
• Proficient in Chef (cookbooks, recipes, and roles) and Terraform (modules, state management, and providers).
• Extensive hands-on experience with infrastructure automation on AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and microservices architecture is advantageous.
• Thorough understanding of Terraform (Infrastructure as Code).
• Proficient in scripting languages such as Python, Shell, and Ruby.
• Experience with Ansible or similar configuration management tools is a plus.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Knowledge of monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana) and infrastructure monitoring practices.
• Practical knowledge of DevOps and CI/CD pipelines.
• Solid understanding of version control systems, particularly Git.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
• Able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
• Meticulous attention to detail and a process-driven mindset.

Certifications (optional but preferred):

• HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate.
• Chef Certification (e.g., Chef Infra Developer or Chef Specialist).
• Cloud platform certifications (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
