In the role of Database Administrator, you will join a dynamic international team located in the Kuala Lumpur Center, providing support for various database technologies such as Oracle and PostgreSQL in Google and Azure cloud environments.

We are looking for candidates with a diverse set of skills and experience in database management, encompassing daily administration, performance optimization, monitoring, and SQL programming expertise. Candidates with overlapping skills across different database technologies and cloud support experience will be prioritized.

When necessary, you will assist application teams in the migration process from Oracle to PostgreSQL on the cloud (for example, CloudSQL) or from Sybase to Oracle or PostgreSQL in cloud platforms.

Responsibilities

• Provide database administration support with a primary focus on Oracle and PostgreSQL in cloud environments (Google or Azure).
• Conduct database maintenance, housekeeping, and troubleshooting tasks.
• Identify and address database performance challenges, including tuning SQL queries, optimizing indexes, and implementing required database modifications.
• Manage incidents, problems, and changes related to database issues, collaborating with other technical teams as needed.
• Deliver operational support, including capacity planning, performance analysis, and resource utilization monitoring.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation on database administration processes, configurations, and troubleshooting methods.
• Oversee installation, configuration, lifecycle migrations/upgrades, and patch management.
• Engage in continuous monitoring and proactive management of database systems to guarantee high availability and optimal performance.
• Support database backup and recovery operations, ensuring effective backup strategies and disaster recovery plans are established.
• Perform SQL (PLSQL) database programming.
• Utilize Unix, PHP, and Python shell scripting.
• Facilitate migrations from Oracle to PostgreSQL platforms in the cloud (e.g., CloudSQL).
• Participate in an on-call rotation to ensure 24/7 availability and prompt response to critical incidents.
• Ensure adherence to data protection regulations.

Skills and Qualifications

Demonstrated experience in Oracle and PostgreSQL, particularly:

• Familiarity with cloud platforms, specifically Azure and Google.
• Expertise in database administration, backup/recovery, and monitoring for Oracle 19c and PostgreSQL (e.g., CloudSQL PaaS).
• Ability to analyze and resolve problems, including debugging errors and raising support requests with vendors.
• Experience in database performance tuning (both configuration-related and application code tuning).
• Proficiency in database installation and configuration.
• Knowledge of Oracle's High Availability solutions (Data Guard and RAC).
• Experience with RMAN backup and recovery, including cloning and duplication.
• Ability to manage data transfer/extraction features (e.g., Oracle's expdp/impdp and equivalent tools in PostgreSQL).
• Skills in space management analysis and object reorganization.
• Familiarity with Oracle's ASM filesystem management.
• Experience in database patching and migrations.
• Proficient in database user management (authorization and authentication).
• Experience with Oracle OEM installation and target registration for monitoring.
• Ability to analyze database performance reports.
• Advanced skills in Unix shell scripting as well as PHP or Python programming.
• Advanced SQL (PLSQL) programming capabilities (stored procedures, functions, and packages).
• Comprehensive knowledge of database security.
• Experience supporting databases in Google Cloud Platform and Microsoft Azure.

Additional Preferred Skills (technical, methodology, and business):

• Familiarity with at least two of the following technologies: Sybase ASE, Cassandra, Redis Cache is advantageous.
• Experience with Oracle's APEX setup and programming.
• Knowledge of Oracle 23c is preferred.
• Experience in software methodologies, processes, and quality assurance.
• Understanding of IT security principles.
• A strong interest in new technologies and self-driven troubleshooting.
