AS400 Developer

Job Overview:

We are in search of an experienced AS400 Developer who possesses a robust background in RPG, COBOL, and IBM i (AS400) systems. The selected candidate will be tasked with the development, maintenance, and enhancement of legacy applications, ensuring the reliability of systems, and supporting essential business functions.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Develop, maintain, and enhance applications on the AS400 (IBM i) platform.
• Evaluate business requirements and convert them into technical solutions.
• Design, code, test, and debug programs utilizing RPG (RPG III / IV / ILE RPG) and COBOL.
• Engage with CLP/CLLE programs, DB2/400 databases, and associated utilities.
• Conduct code reviews to ensure compliance with development standards.
• Diagnose production issues and deliver prompt resolutions.
• Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams, including Business Analysts and QA professionals.
• Contribute to system upgrades, performance tuning, and optimization efforts.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation for applications, processes, and enhancements.

Essential Skills & Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
• Extensive hands-on experience in:
• RPG (RPG III, RPG IV, ILE RPG)
• COBOL on AS400
• IBM i / AS400 System

Experience with:

• CL/CLLE programming
• DB2/400 (DB2 for i)
• File handling (Physical & Logical files)
• Solid understanding of both batch and online processing.
• Familiarity with debugging tools and job logs on IBM i.
• Capability to work on legacy system modernization and enhancements.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with ILE concepts, service programs, and APIs.
• Knowledge of SQL on DB2/400.
• Exposure to system integration and web services.
• Experience in sectors such as Banking, Insurance, or Manufacturing (optional).
• Familiarity with contemporary tools for AS400 modernization is advantageous.

Required Experience:

A minimum of 8–15 years of relevant experience in AS400 development (customize as necessary).
