Business Analyst (Data & Insights)
Job Description
What is the role about
We are hiring a Business Analyst with strong business analysis capability and hands-on data analytics skills. You will move data and analytics use cases from an initial business question through requirements gathering, analysis, dashboard delivery, validation, and user acceptance. Partnering closely with business and use-case owners, you will define measurable outcomes, prepare and analyze data, create purpose-built dashboards, validate results, and coordinate UAT and adoption activities. This is a mid-level role for an independent practitioner who can operate within defined use cases and translate business needs into technical and data requirements.
What you will be working on
Use Case Delivery and Analysis
- Lead discovery sessions with business and use-case owners to clarify problems, users, decisions, processes, measures, and success criteria.
- Convert business needs into measurable outcomes, data definitions, process maps, data requirements, acceptance criteria, and analytical questions.
- Apply suitable analytical tools (e.g. SQL/Python/R) to extract, prepare, reconcile, and analyze data. .
- Clean, validate, and investigate real-world datasets; document business rules, assumptions, limitations, and agreed data treatments.
- Design, build, and maintain fit-for-purpose dashboards and visualizations aligned to business needs.
- Perform exploratory and descriptive analysis and convert findings into clear recommendations for non-technical stakeholders.
User Acceptance and Adoption
- Plan and lead User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for data products, including test cases, expected results, defect triage, evidence collection, retesting, and business sign-off.
- Separate business-rule or data-definition issues from engineering defects and collaborate with Data Engineers or vendors on changes requiring AWS Management Console or Production access.
- Support adoption and foster a data-driven culture through engagement activities such as walkthroughs with users, development of training materials, and clear communication of metrics and analytical limitations.
Documentation and Cross-functional Collaboration
- Document requirements, data dictionaries, data definitions, process flows, decisions, and analytical methods so the work can be maintained by others.
- Organize cross-functional discussions across business owners, divisions, and vendors.
3LoDGovernance Responsibilities
- Risk-value assessment support. Partner with business and use-case owners to document the risks, sensitivity, and potential value of data for each use case, in line with Line 1's proactive risk management obligations under the 3LoDframework. Ensure that data definitions, acceptance criteria, and analytical assumptions are recorded in a way that supports downstream governance review and audit.
- Policy and standards compliance. Ensure that dashboards, data products, and analytical outputs comply with the client's data classification, handling, and governance policies (including IM8 requirements). Identify and report non-compliant data treatments or edge cases to the Senior Data Analyst or the data governance function for resolution.
- Risk escalation and collaboration. Recognize and escalate data-related risks or governance concerns emerging from use cases—such as unclear data ownership, classification gaps, or quality anomalies—to Line 2 via established channels. Keep thorough records of issues raised and decisions made to support the client's transparency and collaboration obligations under the 3LoD framework.
- Audit-readiness documentation. Create and maintain requirements documentation, data dictionaries, data definitions, and analytical method records to a standard suitable for Line 3 audit activities, including periodic audits of data governance processes and controls.
- Data governance culture. Proactively strengthen the client's data governance capability by embedding governance considerations into user walkthroughs, training materials, and stakeholder engagement sessions, supporting Line 2's culture-building mandate.
What we are looking for
- Knowledge or experience in Business Analytics, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics and/or other subjects with substantial quantitative content.
- Proven ability to clarify ambiguous stakeholder needs and convert them into measurable requirements and acceptance criteria.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the capability to independently apply relevant analytical tools and techniques for data compilation and analysis to meet business needs.
- Preferably 3-5 years of relevant experience working with data, including knowledge of programming software/statistical tools such as Python, R and/or visualization tools such as Tableau, Amazon QuickSight, Power BI, or equivalent.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to present to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Familiarity with data governance principles, including data classification, risk-value assessment, and policy compliance, along with an understanding of how these apply within a structured governance framework such as the Three Lines of Defense (3LoD).
