Legal Counsel

Our client, a prominent global leader in the energy and commodities sectors, is seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to support the expansion of its APAC power and carbon trading operations.

This position provides the opportunity to work with a broad spectrum of energy trading and origination activities, collaborating closely with commercial teams across multiple markets within the Asia-Pacific region.

Core Responsibilities

• Deliver legal guidance related to power and carbon trading, origination, and commercial transactions.
• Prepare, examine, and negotiate a variety of complex commercial agreements.
• Provide advice on regulatory compliance, licensing, and legal requirements across relevant APAC jurisdictions.
• Assist the business with contractual disputes, regulatory investigations, and risk management issues.
• Collaborate with commercial and internal stakeholders to offer practical legal counsel and facilitate sound business decision-making.
• Oversee external legal counsel and efficiently manage legal matters to ensure timely resolution.

Candidate Requirements

• Qualified legal professional from a common law jurisdiction with a minimum of 8 years of post-qualification experience (PQE).
• Extensive experience in commercial transactions, preferably within the energy, power, commodities, or trading industries.
• Proven expertise in drafting and negotiating intricate commercial agreements.
• Solid understanding of regulatory frameworks and compliance issues relevant to the energy or trading sectors.
• Strong commercial awareness with the capability to balance legal risks alongside business objectives.
• Exceptional communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to independently manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced environment.
