About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Techno-Functional Solution Architect to lead solution architecture across projects within the Trade & Settlement Technology capability. The Solution Architect will concurrently support multiple application and project teams, with a primary focus on initiatives that require Architecture Review Board reviews and other governance approvals. The individual will own end-to-end solution architecture, personally develop the required architecture and governance artifacts, represent solutions in relevant review forums, and ensure solutions progress through the required approval processes.
The Solution Architect will primarily collaborate with application and project teams, collecting required inputs from infrastructure, network, security, data, testing, vendor, and other specialist teams. Where needed, the architect may consult Enterprise Architects or relevant subject-matter experts, while maintaining overall ownership of the solution. After approvals are granted, the architect will provide implementation assurance by conducting design and architecture reviews to confirm that delivery remains aligned with the approved solution. This is an architecture oversight and assurance role and does not require hands-on development, testing, or implementation.
The architect will also represent the application architecture perspective for test-automation initiatives, partnering with the Software Quality Management Automation Architect and delivery teams to ensure automation solutions align with the overall application and solution architecture. This highly visible role demands strong technical depth, clear solution ownership, stakeholder management, governance experience, and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- End-to-End Solution Architecture
- Own and define the end-to-end solution architecture for assigned Trade & Settlement projects.
- Support multiple projects and application teams simultaneously, prioritizing initiatives that require architecture and governance approvals.
- Convert business, functional, and non-functional requirements into secure, scalable, resilient, maintainable, and supportable solutions.
- Define application, integration, data, infrastructure, security, and operational architecture considerations applicable to the solution.
- Assess alternative solution approaches and recommend the best option based on business value, security, scalability, resilience, performance, maintainability, cost, delivery risk, and alignment with enterprise standards.
- Serve as the primary architecture owner and technical authority for the solution across the full project lifecycle.
- Consult Enterprise Architects and specialist architecture teams when required, while continuing end-to-end ownership and accountability for the solution.
- Detect cross-application impacts, dependencies, constraints, assumptions, and architecture risks early in the project.
- Architecture and Governance Approvals
- Represent Trade & Settlement application and project teams in Architecture Review Boards and all other forums requiring architecture-related review or approval.
- Personally own the preparation, quality, and ongoing maintenance of architecture and governance artifacts.
- Create solution architecture documents, architecture diagrams, system-context diagrams, integration and data-flow diagrams, technical decision records, risk assessments, and other governance-required artifacts.
- Coordinate with application, project, infrastructure, network, security, data, testing, vendor, and other specialist teams to gather the information needed for governance submissions.
- Clearly and structurally present proposed solutions to governance forums.
- Defend architecture decisions and articulate the business and technical rationale for the selected approach.
- Resolve and respond to questions, conditions, risks, recommendations, and actions raised by governance bodies.
- Monitor governance actions and drive them to closure in collaboration with the relevant application and project teams.
- Guide solutions through the full architecture review and approval lifecycle.
- Ensure governance approvals, conditions, and architecture decisions are properly documented and communicated to implementation teams.
- Implementation Assurance
- Review detailed designs and implementation approaches to verify alignment with the approved architecture.
- Provide architecture guidance to application, engineering, testing, infrastructure, network, data, DevOps, and vendor teams during implementation.
- Conduct architecture checkpoints at appropriate stages of the delivery lifecycle.
- Identify and mitigate material deviations from the approved solution.
- Evaluate proposed architecture changes and determine whether additional review or governance approval is necessary.
- Confirm that architecture risks, approval conditions, and non-functional requirements are addressed prior to implementation.
- Assist with deployment-readiness and architecture-focused implementation reviews.
- Maintain traceability between the approved architecture, key architecture decisions, and the implemented solution.
- This role provides architecture oversight and assurance and does not require hands-on development, testing, deployment or implementation activities.
- Test-Automation Architecture Support
- Represent the application architecture perspective in test-automation initiatives.
- Collaborate with the Software Quality Management Automation Architect, application teams, and testing teams to ensure proposed automation solutions align with application and enterprise architecture.
- Advise on application interfaces, integration points, test environments, test data, dependencies, security requirements, and architectural constraints relevant to automation.
- Review test-automation solution designs that impact application architecture, infrastructure, security, or integration patterns.
- Assist teams in identifying critical business flows, integration scenarios, failure conditions, and non-functional requirements that must be included in the automation approach.
- Support the resolution of architecture issues that could prevent or limit effective test automation.
- The Solution Architect will not own automation framework development or hands-on test-script creation.
- Stakeholder and Cross-Team Coordination
- Work primarily with Trade & Settlement application owners, project managers, business analysts, engineering leads, and testing teams.
- Coordinate with infrastructure, network, security, data protection, data architecture, operational support, enterprise architecture, and other specialist teams as required.
- Engage with application vendors to obtain solution details, answer architecture questions, and validate vendor-proposed designs.
- Act as the architecture liaison between application teams, project teams, specialist technology teams, and governance bodies.
- Communicate complex architecture decisions in clear business and technical language.
- Escalate unresolved architecture risks, dependencies, and decisions to the appropriate project or capability leadership.
- Balance competing project priorities while maintaining the quality and timeliness of architecture deliverables.
- Standards, Reuse and Continuous Improvement
- Ensure solutions comply with relevant enterprise architecture principles, security requirements, data-protection requirements, technology standards, and governance expectations.
- Drive reuse of approved architecture patterns, components, and integration approaches across Trade & Settlement applications.
- Identify opportunities to simplify the technology landscape, reduce duplication, and improve solution consistency.
- Maintain reusable architecture templates, patterns, reference designs, and decision records where applicable.
- Contribute to technology modernisation, technical-debt reduction, and complex architecture assessments when capacity permits or when project complexity requires architecture involvement.
- Share architecture knowledge and lessons learned across application and project teams.
