Senior Data Engineer

About the Role

We are hiring a Senior Data Engineer to spearhead data platform initiatives for enterprise clients. In this role, you will design and oversee large-scale data solutions on cloud platforms including Cloudera, Teradata, Snowflake, and Databricks. You will mentor a team of engineers, drive the adoption of modern data engineering practices, and ensure high delivery standards. This position combines technical leadership with client advisory responsibilities—you will own the data strategy for major accounts and be accountable for both delivery outcomes and overall quality.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead data platform architecture & design - create enterprise data lakes, warehouse schemas, and ETL frameworks that support mission-critical banking and financial systems
• Manage technical teams - mentor 3-5 engineers, lead code reviews, guide design decisions, and build team capabilities
• Govern data quality & security - implement metadata management, data lineage, and governance frameworks tailored to regulated environments (banking)
• Own client relationships - advise on data modernization strategies and convert business requirements into technical roadmaps
• Optimize platform operations - oversee costs, performance, and security across cloud platforms (Snowflake, Databricks, Cloudera)
• Drive innovation - assess new tools, define best practices, and share knowledge across teams

Required Qualifications

• Advanced proficiency in: Data Modeling for complex schemas (dimensional, normalized, data vault) Cloudera OR Teradata - strong operational and architectural expertise Snowflake OR Databricks - production deployment, tuning, and governance
• 8+ years of experience in data engineering, including 3+ years in a leadership/architect role
• Proven experience leading and mentoring teams
• Banking or highly regulated data environment experience - knowledge of compliance (AML/KYC), data lineage, and audit trails
• Strong communication skills - able to present to C-suite leadership and non-technical stakeholders

Recommended Skills

• Experience with both Cloudera/Teradata AND Snowflake/Databricks
• Advanced data governance - Collibra, Alation, or custom frameworks
• Data modeling for banking - PSD2, GDPR, Basel III data requirements
• Hands-on experience with Apache Spark, Delta Lake, Iceberg
• Cloud cost optimization and FinOps
