Underwriting SME - Life and Health

We are seeking an experienced Underwriting SME (Life & Health) to bridge insurance underwriting expertise with AI-driven decision-making solutions. The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of Life & Health underwriting and work closely with AI, engineering, and business teams to translate underwriting guidelines into structured AI workflows and prompt-based decision logic.

The role involves designing AI-powered underwriting journeys, ensuring regulatory compliance, validating AI outputs, and driving continuous improvement of underwriting solutions while maintaining governance, transparency, and scalability across multiple markets.

Key Responsibilities

• Translate Life & Health underwriting guidelines, reinsurance rules, and decision frameworks into AI prompts and structured workflows.
• Validate AI-generated underwriting decisions to ensure alignment with underwriting philosophy, risk appetite, and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with AI engineers to design end-to-end underwriting decision flows and human-in-the-loop processes.
• Define escalation mechanisms for complex or low-confidence underwriting cases.
• Ensure AI solutions comply with internal governance, audit, regulatory, and ethical AI standards.
• Develop reusable underwriting logic that can be localized for multiple markets.
• Conduct prompt testing, scenario validation, A/B testing, and performance analysis to improve AI accuracy.
• Monitor AI outputs for bias, drift, and compliance while maintaining version control and documentation.
• Partner with underwriting, product, and technology teams to successfully deploy AI-enabled underwriting solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in Life & Health Insurance Underwriting.
• Strong understanding of underwriting manuals, decision rules, and reinsurance guidelines.
• Exposure to Generative AI, Prompt Engineering, or AI-assisted underwriting solutions.
• Knowledge of insurance regulations, governance, auditability, and ethical AI principles.
• Excellent stakeholder management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
