Test Lead
Job Description
Job Summary
This hybrid position is designed for a seasoned Test Lead with 10 to 12 years of experience in complex embedded environments. The role focuses on Windows XP Embedded automation using Python and Robot Framework, along with Embedded C validation. The Test Lead will own end-to-end test planning and execution, ensuring high-quality delivery for research and clinical products. The role includes close collaboration with cross-functional teams and is primarily based on day shift operations with no travel requirements.
Responsibilities
Lead the design and ongoing maintenance of comprehensive test strategies for embedded solutions built on Windows XP Embedded, ensuring robust functionality, strong performance, and reliability across all targeted configurations and use cases.
Manage the planning and execution of both manual and automated test cycles using Robot Framework and Python automation, delivering predictable and repeatable validation results aligned with project milestones and quality benchmarks.
Provide technical direction for implementing test scripts in Python and Embedded C to validate firmware behavior, interface stability, and error handling, while maintaining traceability from requirements to test cases.
Enhance the automation framework continuously by expanding reusable Python libraries and Robot Framework resources to simplify test development and decrease execution time for regression cycles.
Coordinate defect management by reviewing test failures with development and research teams, analyzing logs and traces from embedded systems, and ensuring timely defect resolution plus retesting, with clear documentation.
Work with research and product teams across R&D as well as preclinical and clinical domains to understand user scenarios, regulatory expectations, and product risks, then convert these insights into meaningful test coverage and risk-based prioritization.
Maintain efficient hybrid work performance through secure remote access methods, clear communication in English, and structured reporting practices that keep all stakeholders informed during day shift operations.
Produce detailed test reports and metrics covering coverage, defect trends, automation effectiveness, and release readiness, enabling informed decisions that protect user safety and strengthen societal trust in company products.
Assist with test environment setup and maintenance for embedded platforms by installing builds, configuring hardware and interfaces, and validating that test beds reflect intended production conditions to ensure accurate results.
Contribute to product and process quality by identifying opportunities to refine requirements, improve design for testability, and enable early defect detection throughout the overall development lifecycle.
Mentor junior test engineers on applying structured test design techniques for embedded software, supporting consistent automation usage, clear documentation standards, and effective collaboration, without formal people management responsibilities.
Actively participate in cross-functional discussions to clarify issues, propose test optimizations, and align on release criteria, ensuring test insights directly support business goals and positively impact end users.
Promote systematic risk assessment in embedded testing by mapping potential failure modes to targeted test scenarios, reducing field issues and improving safety for clinical and preclinical applications.
Qualifications
Demonstrate strong hands-on experience testing solutions based on Windows XP Embedded, with a proven track record validating system behavior, resource constraints, and peripheral interactions within complex environments.
Show advanced proficiency in Robot Framework, including the ability to design modular test suites, keyword-driven scenarios, and robust automation pipelines that integrate smoothly with continuous integration tools.
Apply expert-level Python and Python automation skills to create maintainable test scripts, utilities, and automation harnesses that support scalable regression testing and efficient analysis of test outputs.
Demonstrate a solid understanding of Embedded C concepts, including memory management, real-time constraints, and hardware abstraction, so test cases and automation can effectively validate embedded software behavior.
Bring domain awareness of R&D along with preclinical and clinical environments by understanding safety considerations, data integrity needs, and validation expectations that influence test strategies and documentation.
Use excellent English reading, writing, and speaking skills to communicate requirements, defects, risks, and test results clearly with global stakeholders in a hybrid work setting.
Certifications Required
ISTQB Advanced Test Analyst or Certified Test Automation Engineer or equivalent certification in software testing and automation.
