Surgical Oncologist

Responsibilities

• Diagnosis and staging: Conduct examinations, order and interpret diagnostic tests like biopsies and imaging, and determine the type and stage of cancer. 
• Treatment planning: Develop and implement individualized treatment plans that may include chemotherapy, radiation therapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and surgery. 
• Patient and family education: Explain the diagnosis, treatment options, potential side effects, and prognosis to patients and their families. 
• Care coordination: Work with other medical professionals, such as surgeons, radiologists, and pathologists, to provide comprehensive and coordinated care. 
• Patient monitoring: Monitor patient progress during treatment, adjust plans as needed, and manage symptoms and side effects to improve quality of life. 
• Research and development: Participate in clinical trials and research to stay updated on advancements in oncology. 
• Record keeping: Maintain accurate and detailed patient medical records.
