Staff Engineer (Gateway Services)

• Design, build, and optimize gateway services that enable secure, standards-based interoperability between disparate EMR/EHR systems, clinical applications, and external partners.
• Implement and advocate for healthcare data exchange standards such as HL7, FHIR, CCD, and IHE frameworks to ensure robust and scalable information flow across systems.
• Architect solutions that meet CMS interoperability mandates and other regulatory requirements, ensuring data privacy, auditability, and traceability.
• Develop and maintain high-throughput, low-latency data streaming and processing pipelines to support real-time and batch analytics for clinical and operational use cases.
• Ensure end-to-end security of data in motion and at rest, implementing strong authentication, authorization, and encryption protocols.
• Drive reliability, scalability, and observability across gateway and data processing services, including monitoring, alerting, and automated recovery.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership, mentor engineers, conduct design/code reviews, and set engineering best practices.
• Partner with product, compliance, and clinical informatics teams to translate business and regulatory requirements into technical solutions.

What You Need

• 8+ years of experience in backend, infrastructure, or data engineering, with a focus on distributed systems, cloud platforms, and healthcare interoperability.
• Proven expertise in designing and operating gateway or API infrastructure for high-scale, regulated environments.
• Good hands-on experience with interoperability standards (HL7, FHIR, CCD), EMR/EHR integration, and healthcare data exchange protocols.
• Good understanding of security standards (TLS, OAuth, SAML), role-based access, and compliance frameworks (CMS, HIPAA).
• Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure), containerization (Kubernetes, Docker), and data streaming technologies (Kafka, gRPC, service mesh).
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects and mentor engineering teams.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Strong programming skills in languages such as Python or Go.
• bachelors or masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
