Specialist IS Business Systems Analyst, R&D Data Catalyst Team

Summary:

• The Specialist Business Systems Analyst will define and specify features for data and knowledge management tools that support R&D precision medicine at Amgen.
• These tools provide federated visibility into human datasets, project histories, and scientific findings—crucial for accelerating speed to discovery and market.
• The role focuses on data mastering, harmonization, and linking, not transactional processing, and requires strong collaboration across architecture, engineering, and stakeholder teams.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform data analysis and profiling to identify value ranges and propose unification logic
• Create and maintain a feature backlog in Jira with detailed specifications based on data analysis
• Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and document product requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria
• Partner with Scrum Master and development team to plan and execute Agile sprints, review iterations, and provide feedback
• Develop User Guides, Release Notes, and other support documentation
• Produce written materials such as product backlog, user stories, and cross-timezone artifacts to ensure efficient coordination
• Define, monitor, and manage Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for product performance and availability
• Oversee incident resolution and minimize impact on business operations
• Analyze product performance, user engagement, and market trends to guide product decisions
• Build and maintain reports and dashboards for performance insights
• Conduct market research and competitive analysis to inform product strategy
• Leverage customer feedback and support data to identify pain points and opportunities

Basic Qualifications:

• Master's degree with 8–10 years of experience as a Product Owner / Platform Owner / Service Owner OR
• Bachelor's degree with 10–14 years of relevant experience OR
• Diploma with 14–18 years of relevant experience

Must-Have Functional Skills:

• Exceptional data analysis and profiling skills
• Advanced SQL query development experience
• Proficient in using Excel for data stewardship and curation
• Skilled in communicating data profiling findings to non-technical users
• Hands-on experience with Power BI (basic models and reports)
• Strong knowledge of Agile, Jira, Confluence, and product management practices
• Familiar with ITSM principles and methodologies
• Experience with data management/visibility solutions such as data warehouses, MDM, and knowledge management
• Proven experience mentoring product/business analysts and data profilers

Good-to-Have Skills:

• Experience creating differentiated, deliverable solutions
• Background with human data (especially healthcare)
• Familiarity with LLMs and AI tools for metadata creation and data curation
• Knowledge of laboratory data, clinical trials, HL7, or FHIR standards

Professional Certifications:

• SAFe Agile Practitioner (6.0) – preferred
