Title: Solar Electrical Design Engineer

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.

Experience:

• At least 5 years of pertinent experience in Solar PV electrical design and engineering.
• Demonstrated expertise in ground-mounted, utility-scale Solar PV projects.
• Practical experience in both pre-bid and detailed/post-bid engineering phases.
• Experience with international solar projects and familiarity with various grid codes will be a plus.

Position Overview:

We are looking for a qualified Solar Electrical Design Engineer with a minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical design and engineering, particularly for ground-mounted, utility-scale Solar PV projects. Experience in both local and international projects is advantageous.

The successful candidate will take charge of electrical engineering tasks from the pre-bid phase through detailed engineering, ensuring that design solutions are technically robust, cost-efficient, optimized, and compliant. This role demands strong technical acumen, analytical capabilities, and the capacity to effectively collaborate with clients, consultants, vendors, and multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and optimize electrical systems for utility-scale Solar PV installations, encompassing DC/AC systems, inverter layout, MV collection systems, and grid interconnections.
• Create and review Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), electrical layouts, cable routing plans, equipment layouts, and electrical schematics.
• Conduct electrical design calculations, including DC/AC/MV cable sizing, voltage drop assessments, fuse and protection sizing, transformer sizing, short-circuit and load-flow analysis, reactive power considerations, power factor assessments, electrical loss calculations, earthing, and lightning protection.
• Draft technical specifications, datasheets, and design documentation for essential electrical equipment.
• Evaluate vendor technical proposals, drawings, datasheets, and deviations, and compile technical evaluation reports and comparison sheets.
• Assist in pre-bid engineering tasks, including tender/RFP analysis, technical clarifications, initial design, equipment sizing, and preparation of electrical BOM/BOQ.
• Identify technical challenges, opportunities for design optimization, and assess cost implications during the bidding and engineering processes.
• Collaborate with Civil, Mechanical, Structural, SCADA, Procurement, and Project teams to ensure seamless multidisciplinary design integration.
• Engage in meetings with clients and consultants, present technical solutions, address engineering inquiries, and resolve technical issues efficiently.
• Ensure adherence to relevant IEC, IEEE, NEC/NFPA standards, local regulations, grid codes, and project-specific requirements.
• Conduct design reviews, quality checks, and technical assessments to guarantee the accuracy and timely delivery of engineering outputs.
• Review and resolve comments from clients, consultants, and vendors within established project timelines.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in Solar PV electrical design and engineering.
• Demonstrated expertise in ground-mounted, utility-scale Solar PV projects.
• Practical experience in both pre-bid and detailed/post-bid engineering.
• Solid understanding of solar plant electrical systems, equipment selection, protection mechanisms, and grid interconnection stipulations.
• Experience with international solar projects and various grid codes will be a plus.

Technical Skills:

• In-depth knowledge of Solar PV electrical system design, engineering, and optimization.
• Proficient in creating SLDs, electrical layouts, cable schedules, equipment specifications, and design calculations.
• Familiarity with electrical design and analysis tools such as ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD, or CYMCAP is preferred.
• Good grasp of transformers, inverters, MV switchgear, protection relays, cables, and earthing and lightning protection systems.
• Awareness of applicable international standards, grid compliance requirements, and project specifications.
• Capability to review technical documents, assess vendor proposals, and prepare electrical BOQs and technical comparison reports.
