SME - Equipment Design

Job Description

The role involves working with process engineers to develop prototype and mass production equipment for manufacturing. It focuses on developing automated systems to support display module integration and other sophisticated product design challenges.

The candidate will be involved in:

1. Innovative Equipment Design: Focusing on developing automated equipment architectures to support scalable processes, driving new product designs while maintaining Apple product qualities.
2. Collaboration with Suppliers: Working with both internal teams and external equipment manufacturers to build fully automated equipment from the concept stage through to mass production (MP).
3. Process Design and Testing: Performing design for manufacturability (DFM) reviews, failure analysis, and identifying improvement paths for new equipment technologies. Ensuring that new process architectures can scale for mass production.
4. Cross-functional Interaction: Working with teams in Product Design, Display Engineering, Display Operations, and international vendors to ensure a seamless design-to-production transition.
5. Advanced Automation Expertise: Extensive hands-on experience with industrial robots, PLC programming, and advanced automation systems, including tools like ABB, KUKA, Fanuc, and other robotics and automation systems.
6. Travel and Vendor Management: The role involves domestic travel (30%) and interacting with international suppliers and contract manufacturers.

Qualifications and Expertise Required:

• 5+ years of experience in automation and robotics for mass production applications.
• Expertise in robot selection and programming (ABB, KUKA, Fanuc, etc.), robot simulations, and PLC programming (Mitsubishi, Siemens, etc.).
• Strong background in CAD design for mechanical components and assemblies, using GD&T practices.
• Proficient in digital twin technology, safety integration, HMI programming, and the creation of part loading/unloading systems.
