Senior Engineer - Power System Planning Studies

Overview

We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to spearhead and execute Transmission network planning studies, primarily concentrating on the development of the UK transmission network. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with the client’s network planning team.

Your Role

• Extensive knowledge of the UK Transmission network, including future network scenarios, load and generation integration, interconnector operations, and reinforcement evaluations.
• Thorough understanding of the NESO SQSS standard.
• Proficient in the preparation, modification, and validation of DIgSILENT PowerFactory study models utilizing project documents and established planning assumptions.
• Significant experience in steady-state load flow and contingency analyses for future years, emphasizing thermal and voltage assessments as per SQSS and conducting boundary studies.
• Robust experience in short circuit studies for future network scenarios using DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
• Solid background in RMS modeling and studies within DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
• Experience in developing System Design Specifications (SDS) from inception to sign-off.
• Capable of preparing study reports and various technical documentation.
• Good knowledge of DPL, Python scripting, and automation techniques.
• Coordinate with the client’s network design and modeling teams, and provide leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.
• Strong conceptual skills, excellent interpersonal communication, and organizational abilities are essential, including the capability to articulate complex technical concepts to decision-makers and project teams.
• The candidate must possess strong oral and written communication skills, be open to travel, and thrive in a customer-focused, project-driven environment.
  
  

About You

• Master's or bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with over 10 years of pertinent experience in transmission system planning studies.
• Previous experience in leading a client-facing team.
• Advanced skills with DIgSILENT PowerFactory, encompassing transmission network modeling, load flow analysis, contingency analysis, short circuit/fault level studies, and RMS studies.
• Familiarity with UK transmission planning processes and documentation such as ETYS, NOA, Scheme Requirement Forms, System Design Specifications, and Project Listing Documents.
• Experience in evaluating HVDC links, interconnectors, offshore wind connections, Smart Wires, SVCs, and STATCOMs.
• Proficiency in Python or similar automation tools for model validation, data processing, and reporting.
