Senior Design Engineer

Role & responsibilities

This role demands a combined knowledge of Electrical & Instrumentation Design for large Modular execution projects with good understanding of multi discipline inputs, latest technologies used in Modular Projects and logistical planning.

1. Modular Execution Leadership - Electrical & Instrumentation:

• Lead and oversee the design and execution of modular projects, ensuring alignment with Air Liquide standards, Client specifications and industry standards.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams globally to execute E&I scope of Modular Projects maintaining consistency across all regions and teams.
• Drive the development of Modularization to optimize constructability, transportation, and installation.
• Review project schedules, identify critical paths & provide solutions to meet project goals. 
• Oversee Project development during Engineering & fabrication phase for successful Project execution. 

2. Engineering Oversight:

• Develop conceptual design arrangement of E&I design in the early Project phase, including major cable tray routing in Pre assembled Racks & Units, Electrical & Instrument room layouts to support Modularization.
• Oversee and lead E&I design activities for global projects with a focus on modular execution.
• Review design and guide Project teams to increase the extent of Modularization.
• Develop Project specific guidelines for implementation by design teams.
• Review detailed E&I design deliverables, including schematics, layouts, cable schedules, and installation drawings.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a global team of designers and engineers.
• Conduct design reviews, quality checks, and constructability assessments to maintain high standards of execution.

3. Fabrication-Construction Phase Management:

• Work closely with fabrication facilities to oversee the assembly of Modules.
• Provide technical guidance during fabrication, addressing any design or construction challenges.
• Conduct regular inspections and reviews to ensure accuracy and consistency across modules.
• Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) teams to ensure seamless integration of Modules at site.

4. Proposal and Estimation Support:

• Collaborate with the proposal team to develop accurate cost and effort estimates for E&I systems in modular projects.
• Contribute to technical proposals, identifying risks and opportunities to strengthen bids.
• Review and validate project estimates, ensuring feasibility and competitiveness.
• Support estimators for cost baselines for Engineering, fabrication & construction.

5. Continuous Improvement and Innovation:

• Drive the implementation of new technologies and methodologies to enhance E&I modular design and execution efficiency.
• Implement process improvements to reduce costs and improve Project execution.
• Develop innovative solutions to address project challenges and improve efficiency during the modular execution process.
• Develop standard practices and procedures for Modular execution contributing to the Global Modularization repository.
• Support automation development programs related to Modularization.

Preferred candidate profile

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in Electrical & Instrumentation design, with a significant focus on Modular execution.
• Proven track record of delivering large-scale Modular projects.
• Expertise in engineering design tools e.g., AutoCAD, S3D will be an added advantage.
• Understanding of industry standards (e.g., IEC, NEC, API) & regulatory requirements.
• Experienced in Implementation of Safe Design Practices
• Knowledge of various methodologies for trays / conduits in Modular Execution.
• Knowledge of erection / fabrication practices followed globally.
• Knowledge of electrical tracing arrangements, instrumentation tubing arrangement. 
• Understanding in installation / Construction works at site.
• Understanding of working in Module yard is must.
