Job Description
Position Overview
We are on the lookout for a skilled Radio Engineer II to provide innovative radiofrequency and wireless system designs for various projects including railway, metro, light rail, depots, stations, tunnels, and buildings. The ideal candidate will possess extensive expertise in Ekahau and iBwave, along with international experience in predictive modeling, surveys, coverage analysis, design optimization, and technical assurance.
Your Responsibilities
- Create conceptual, tender, and detailed designs for Wi-Fi, TETRA, public-safety radio, cellular DAS, LTE/5G, private mobile radio, and other tailored wireless systems relevant to each project.
- Draft radio and wireless system architectures for stations, tunnels, platforms, depots, workshops, stabling areas, control centers, trackside zones, and buildings.
- Conduct RF propagation modeling, coverage and capacity assessments, interference evaluations, frequency/channel planning, link-budget calculations, and design optimization.
- Identify optimal locations for access points, antennas, remote-radio-units, and repeaters based on project specifications, validated survey data, and relevant design standards.
- Design both passive and active DAS solutions, which include antennas, feeders, splitters, couplers, combiners, cable routing, and necessary equipment.
- Collaborate on designs with architecture, civil engineering, MEP, signalling, rolling stock, operations, security, fire and life safety, and IT/network teams.
- Compile design documentation, including reports, architectural and block diagrams, heat maps, coverage plots, equipment schedules, BOQ/BOM, specifications, interface documents, and as-built records.
- Draft and evaluate survey, FAT, SAT, coverage acceptance, and commissioning protocols;
- Lead designated design packages and offer technical mentorship to CAD/BIM designers for Radio schematics.
- Software and RF Design Expertise
Ekahau
- Generate predictive Wi-Fi models utilizing floor plans, wall types, attenuation values, antenna specifications, and project design criteria.
- Execute access-point placement, channel and power planning, capacity modeling, and coverage validation for high-density and mission-critical environments.
- Plan and conduct passive, active, and spectrum surveys; analyze findings and produce comprehensive survey and validation reports.
iBwave
- Create iBwave models for in-building radio, cellular, public-safety, and mission-critical coverage across buildings, stations, tunnels, and depots.
- Set up building geometry, construction materials, RF sources, antennas, and propagation parameters for dependable predictive modeling.
- Compile DAS schematics, riser diagrams, equipment layouts, cable schedules, link budgets, and coverage-compliance reports, ensuring alignment with CAD/BIM outputs.
Essential Technical Skills
- Proven expertise with Ekahau for predictive Wi-Fi design, including survey planning, analysis, and reporting.
- Extensive practical experience with iBwave for in-building radio, DAS, and RF coverage design.
- Solid understanding of RF propagation, path loss, fading, attenuation, link budgets, antenna characteristics, interference, signal quality, and capacity planning.
- Design experience in Wi-Fi and at least two of the following domains: TETRA, public-safety radio, cellular DAS, LTE/5G, private mobile radio, or tunnel radio.
- Experience conducting indoor and outdoor wireless surveys, RF testing methods, and coverage acceptance procedures.
- Capability to interpret architectural, civil, MEP, railway, and telecom drawings, coordinating efforts within AutoCAD/Revit/BIM environments.
- Familiarity with IP networking, VLANs, QoS, PoE, and fiber connectivity that supports wireless systems.
- Understanding of applicable standards and guidelines, such as IEEE 802.11 Wi-Fi specifications, ETSI regulations, Ofcom/FCC requirements, EN 50121 EMC standards, and relevant railway telecommunications guidelines.
- Experience in radio systems, including leaky feeders, radiating cables, tunnel DAS, distributed antenna systems, and emergency communications coverage.
- Comprehension of interfaces with SCADA, signaling, PA/VA, CCTV, passenger information systems, operational telephony, and transmission networks.
- Strong skills in technical writing, design calculations, stakeholder coordination, and multidisciplinary communication.
Rail and International Experience
- Proven experience in radio design for railway, metro, light rail, station, depot, tunnel, or transportation infrastructure projects.
- Experience in wireless design for complex or high-occupancy buildings.
- Experience managing projects across various countries or regions and collaborating with geographically dispersed teams.
- Aptitude for applying project requirements, client standards, local regulations, and international engineering practices.
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Electronics Engineering, or a related engineering field.
- 7-10 years of pertinent experience in radio, wireless, or RF design, with extensive hands-on proficiency in Ekahau and iBwave.
- Demonstrated capability in producing comprehensive radio design deliverables for both rail and building sectors.
- Preferred qualifications include relevant Ekahau and/or iBwave certification; vendor wireless certification is also desirable.
- Proficiency in working independently and delivering precise work within established scope, timeline, and budget.
- Willingness to engage in international projects, client meetings, and site activities as needed.
