Power BI

Responsibilities

• Design and build advanced interactive dashboards in MS Power BI to provide clear, actionable insights for business stakeholders in life and annuities insurance. Present complex data in a decision-support format that strengthens operational performance in a work from office environment.
• Develop and maintain high quality paginated reports using Power BI Report Builder to satisfy detailed regulatory and management reporting requirements. Ensure all life and annuities insurance product metrics are accurately calculated, clearly documented, and consistently delivered within agreed timelines.
• Configure and administer Power BI Report Server to enable secure on premise report hosting. Implement appropriate access control, performance optimization, and reliable scheduling aligned with the company reporting calendar and day shift operations.
• Carry out advanced data modeling in MS Power BI by creating robust datasets, relationships, and measures. Support analytical use cases while ensuring insurance policy, claim, and annuity calculations and aggregations remain consistent, transparent, and aligned with business rules.
• Partner with underwriting, actuarial operations, and finance teams to capture detailed reporting requirements. Translate functional needs from life and annuities insurance stakeholders into effective Power BI solutions that enhance visibility into portfolio performance and risk indicators.
• Enhance Power BI report and dashboard performance and usability by improving query logic, reducing refresh times, and refining visual design. Ensure users can quickly interpret results and make data driven decisions during standard office hours without technical barriers.
• Implement rigorous data quality checks and validation procedures across Power BI data pipelines. Verify that input data from core insurance systems is accurate, complete, and consistent, and ensure anomalies are identified, documented, and resolved to protect reporting integrity.
• Manage Power BI artifact deployment, version control, and change management across development, test, and production environments. Ensure report and dashboard enhancements are reviewed, regression tested, and communicated to relevant stakeholders with minimal disruption.
• Provide expert support to business users on interpreting Power BI content and using self service analytics. Conduct targeted training sessions and maintain documentation updates that enable teams to independently explore trends, segment customer data, and evaluate product performance.
• Collaborate with data engineering teams to define and refine data extraction, transformation, and loading processes for Power BI models. Ensure data structures from policy administration and claims systems are optimized for analytics and long term maintainability.
• Track usage patterns and gather feedback on Power BI solutions. Analyze user adoption metrics and stakeholder input to prioritize enhancements that improve accessibility, reduce manual reporting effort, and align with the insurance portfolio’s strategic objectives.
• Maintain compliance with company policies, audit requirements, and industry regulations by embedding proper data security practices, access controls, and documentation standards into Power BI report and dashboard development activities.
• Drive continuous improvement in business intelligence standards and practices. Propose new visualization approaches, reusable templates, and data modeling patterns to help the organization scale analytics capabilities and deliver greater value to customers and society through improved insurance services.

Qualifications

• Demonstrate strong hands on experience in MS Power BI, including data modeling, DAX calculations, report design, and deployment, earned through seven to ten years of professional work in business intelligence or analytics roles.
• Demonstrate advanced proficiency in Power BI Report Builder, with a proven ability to deliver complex paginated reports that support large datasets and detailed layouts for regulatory and management reporting in insurance or comparable domains.
• Show strong experience configuring and managing Power BI Report Server environments, including setup, permissions, scheduling, and performance tuning, to support secure on premise reporting solutions in an enterprise setting.
• Apply in-depth understanding of relational databases, SQL querying, and data warehousing concepts to build efficient data sources for Power BI solutions that enable reliable analysis and consistent refresh operations.
• Demonstrate familiarity with life and annuities insurance concepts, including policy lifecycle, premium calculations, claims processes, and reserve monitoring. Use this domain knowledge to design business relevant measures and dimensions for reports and dashboards.
• Use strong analytical and problem solving skills to investigate data issues, reconcile discrepancies between source systems and reports, and recommend sustainable improvements that improve data accuracy and clarity for stakeholders.
• Exhibit effective communication and collaboration skills to work with cross functional teams, gather detailed reporting requirements, explain technical constraints in simple terms, and align solutions with business priorities while operating primarily in a work from office day shift model.
