Job Description

Job Description:

  • We are looking for a Playwright Automation Architect to establish and oversee the test automation strategy framework architecture and quality engineering toolchain across enterprise applications.
  • Your role will involve creating scalable and maintainable Playwright frameworks, integrating them with ALM, CI/CD, and observability platforms, while also introducing AI-assisted test engineering in a structured and production-ready manner.
  • This position is hands-on and requires you to set standards, build the reference framework, mentor engineers, and provide guidance to stakeholders regarding automation strategies, tooling, and return on investment.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as TypeScript is preferred, along with knowledge of JavaScript, Java, Python, and C for integration with existing enterprise resources.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Automation Strategy Architecture Governance
  • Establish test automation strategy, outline automation candidates, promote best practices, and advocate for test pyramid adoption.
  • Perform automation feasibility studies, evaluate tools, assess ROI, and create business cases.
  • Set framework standards, coding guidelines, review practices, and develop reusable components.
  • Lead the transition from legacy tools such as Selenium, Cypress, and commercial tools to Playwright.
  • Define and track quality KPIs and gates, including coverage, stability, execution time, and defect leakage.
  • Oversee framework lifecycle, manage dependencies, Playwright upgrades, and ensure maintainability.
  • Test Automation Framework Design Implementation
  • Create and implement Playwright automation frameworks utilizing BDD with Gherkin, Playwright BDD, and Cucumber.
  • Employ Playwright fixtures for page objects, shared state management, and reusable test setups.
  • Configure Playwright settings for environments, projects, cross-browser execution, parallelization, worker processes, sharding, and both headless and headed modes.
  • Enable selective test execution using tags, grep filters, and suite project configurations.
  • Implement resilient locators, web-first assertions, and stable automation methodologies.
  • Develop data-driven tests utilizing Scenario Outlines, Examples tables, and DataTables.
  • Automate Web UI APIs using Playwright Request Context and mobile browser scenarios through device emulation.
  • Incorporate screenshots, video recording, tracing, structured logging, custom reporting, and visual regression testing.
  • Formulate test data management strategies, including authentication handling, SSO, MFA, storage state, and secure secret management.
  • Generative Agentic AI in Quality Engineering
  • Integrate Playwright AI functionalities such as planner, generator, and healer to expedite test creation from requirements and user stories.
  • Configure and utilize Playwright MCP Server and associated MCP tools for AI-assisted exploration, authoring, and maintenance.
  • Drive measurable ROI through AI-led quality engineering initiatives and automation acceleration.
  • Toolchain Integration Test Observability: Integrate Playwright with Jira, Xray, Zephyr, and other ALM Test Management tools.
  • Develop CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, GitLab CI, or equivalent platforms that support Docker execution, parallel runs, sharding, and quality gates.
  • Incorporate observability and reporting tools such as ReportPortal.
  • Non-Functional Test Automation: Execute accessibility testing using axe-core and axe-core-playwright.

Technical Requirements:

  • 13 years of experience in quality engineering, with 10 years focused on functional test automation using both commercial and open-source tools and frameworks.
  • 3 years of practical experience in designing and constructing frameworks with Playwright or equivalent expertise in Selenium and Cypress, showcasing recent Playwright projects.
  • Strong programming capabilities in TypeScript and JavaScript, along with a solid foundation in object-oriented programming.
  • Familiarity with Java, Python, and C.
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing BDD frameworks with Gherkin and Cucumber-based tools.
  • Proven track record in designing and executing end-to-end test automation across enterprise projects.
  • Experience in conducting automation feasibility assessments, tool selection, and analysis of return on investment.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD using Azure DevOps, GitLab, or similar platforms, alongside test management and ALM integration with Jira, Xray, or Zephyr.
  • Hands-on experience applying Generative and/or Agentic AI in quality engineering, such as AI-assisted test generation, self-healing, or MCP-based tooling in practical projects, with the ability to discuss outcomes and lessons learned.
  • Experience leading or mentoring automation teams, serving as a technical authority on framework-related decisions.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Experience with test observability and dashboard tools like ReportPortal, Allure, and quality gate design.
  • Proficiency in Docker and Kubernetes for scalable containerized test execution, as well as cloud CI infrastructure in Azure, AWS, or GCP.
  • Experience with API performance and contract testing tools, such as Specmatic, in conjunction with Playwright.
  • Knowledge of accessibility (WCAG) and application security (OWASP) testing.
  • Familiarity with LLM evaluation and guardrails, as well as securing AI tools utilized in delivery pipelines.
  • Industry-recognized certifications in Cloud, Generative, and Agentic AI.
  • Location: All Locations.
