Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

BIM Modeling for Mechanical Systems:

  • Develop 3D BIM models for mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, piping, and fire protection systems, based on project requirements and engineering designs.
  • Coordinate mechanical systems with architectural, structural, and electrical designs to ensure proper integration and prevent clashes using clash detection tools.
  • Create detailed mechanical drawings, including plans, sections, elevations, and schedules from the BIM model.
  • Modify and update BIM models and drawings to reflect changes in project scope, design, or regulations.

Collaboration & Coordination:

  • Work closely with engineers, architects, and other BIM professionals to ensure design and model coordination.
  • Assist in the development of project-specific BIM execution plans to ensure that model standards, processes, and protocols are followed.
  • Conduct coordination meetings to discuss any clashes or issues found during the modeling or design review process.
  • Provide feedback to senior engineers and project managers regarding model accuracy, design improvements, and any discrepancies in the design.

Model Quality & Accuracy:

  • Ensure that all mechanical models are created in compliance with company standards, local building codes, and project specifications.
  • Perform regular checks on BIM models to verify that they are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Maintain a high level of model quality by adhering to BIM execution plans, client specifications, and industry standards.
  • Use BIM tools (such as Revit, Navisworks, or AutoCAD MEP) for model creation, analysis, and clash detection.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Generate reports, schedules, and material takeoffs from the BIM models for mechanical systems.
  • Prepare and maintain project documentation, including design and construction drawings, model revisions, and project records.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical reports, progress reports, and presentations for clients and stakeholders.

Model Analysis & Simulation:

  • Use BIM tools to perform simulations of mechanical systems to analyze airflow, heating, cooling, and energy performance.
  • Conduct analysis to ensure the performance of mechanical systems meets project requirements and energy efficiency standards.
  • Work with the team to resolve any design issues identified through simulations or model analysis.

Project Support:

  • Support the construction team by providing accurate, detailed mechanical drawings and models for installation and coordination.
  • Assist in creating maintenance manuals and as-built models upon project completion for handover to clients.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation:

  • Stay updated on the latest trends and advancements in BIM technology, mechanical systems design, and industry best practices.
  • Participate in training and workshops to improve skills and knowledge of new tools, software, and techniques in the BIM and mechanical design space.
  • Suggest process improvements and tools that could improve the efficiency and accuracy of BIM workflows.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related field. Certification in BIM or a similar field is preferred.
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in mechanical design, with at least 2 years focused on BIM modeling for mechanical systems.
  • Industry Expertise: Experience in the design and modeling of mechanical systems for large-scale building projects, including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.

Skills & Competencies:

  • BIM Software Proficiency: Expertise in BIM software such as Revit, AutoCAD MEP, Navisworks, and other related tools.
  • Mechanical Design Knowledge: Solid understanding of mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, piping, and fire protection design principles.
  • Collaboration & Coordination: Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and collaborate with architects, engineers, and other stakeholders.
  • Clash Detection: Experience with clash detection tools (Navisworks, Revit Clash Detection) and resolving design issues identified in BIM models.
  • Detail-Oriented: Strong attention to detail and precision in creating and reviewing mechanical BIM models and drawings.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve design or coordination issues.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact with team members, clients, and stakeholders effectively.
