Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Team Leadership & Management:
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of civil design engineers, providing technical guidance, coaching, and career development.
  • Allocate work to team members, ensuring that resources are utilized efficiently and project timelines are met.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment, encouraging innovation, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide feedback to team members on their professional growth and project contributions.
  1. Project Oversight & Design Management:
  • Oversee the design process for various civil engineering projects, including roads, bridges, drainage systems, water treatment plants, and other infrastructure works.
  • Ensure that all designs meet client specifications, local building codes, industry standards, and sustainability goals.
  • Develop, review, and approve civil engineering designs, drawings, and technical reports.
  • Coordinate with the project management team to establish project schedules, budgets, and milestones.
  • Ensure that design changes or modifications are communicated clearly and implemented effectively throughout the project lifecycle.
  1. Client Liaison & Stakeholder Management:
  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, consultants, and contractors regarding design-related matters.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients and ensure that their needs and expectations are met throughout the design process.
  • Prepare and present technical reports, design proposals, and project updates to clients and other stakeholders.
  1. Quality Control & Compliance:
  • Ensure that civil designs are executed in accordance with applicable codes, regulations, and quality standards.
  • Conduct regular design reviews and technical audits to ensure that designs comply with project specifications and meet the required safety, environmental, and sustainability standards.
  • Implement and maintain quality control procedures throughout the design and construction phases of the project.
  1. Resource & Budget Management:
  • Manage the budget for civil design engineering activities, ensuring that the project remains within financial constraints.
  • Track project costs, monitor resource utilization, and identify opportunities for cost optimization without compromising quality.
  • Ensure that appropriate materials, equipment, and resources are allocated for design work and project execution.
  1. Risk Management & Problem Resolution:
  • Identify and address potential risks related to civil design, including technical challenges, resource constraints, and timeline delays.
  • Provide solutions to design-related problems or technical challenges that may arise during the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure that any issues or disputes are resolved in a timely and effective manner, maintaining client satisfaction and project success.
  1. Collaboration with Other Departments:
  • Work closely with other engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, structural, etc.) to ensure integrated and seamless design solutions.
  • Collaborate with procurement, construction, and project management teams to ensure smooth transitions between the design and execution phases of projects.
  1. Continuous Improvement & Innovation:
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in civil engineering technology, materials, and best practices.
  • Promote the adoption of innovative design solutions, tools, and software that can enhance design efficiency and quality.
  • Encourage and support the team's professional development through training, conferences, and certifications.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. A Master's degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering is a plus.
  • Experience: 8+ years of experience in civil design engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial role.
  • Industry Expertise: Proven experience in managing civil design engineering projects for infrastructure, residential, commercial, or industrial developments.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Leadership & Team Management: Proven experience leading and managing design engineering teams, with the ability to inspire and mentor staff.
  • Civil Design Expertise: In-depth knowledge of civil engineering principles, including site development, structural design, drainage, roads, utilities, and environmental engineering.
  • Project Management: Strong project management skills, including resource allocation, scheduling, budgeting, and risk management.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in design software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, etc.) and engineering analysis tools.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of local and international building codes, environmental regulations, and sustainability guidelines.
  • Client Management: Ability to maintain strong relationships with clients and stakeholders, and manage expectations effectively.
  • Problem-Solving & Decision-Making: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for preparing reports, proposals, and presentations.
