Engineering Manager

Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end design and delivery of Java and Hibernate-based applications that support secure, highly available cards and payments processing platforms, ensuring alignment with business objectives and regulatory expectations.
• Lead the planning and prioritization of engineering initiatives across multiple hybrid teams to deliver payment features, stability enhancements, and performance optimizations that improve customer transaction journeys on schedule.
• Make architectural decisions for core payment services by defining modular Java components and dependable data persistence strategies with Hibernate, with a focus on scalability, resilience, and operational efficiency.
• Partner closely with product and business stakeholders in the cards and payments domain to convert complex transaction requirements into actionable engineering backlogs and measurable technical outcomes.
• Support engineering teams in applying secure coding practices, encryption usage, and transaction integrity standards for Java-based solutions to reduce risk exposure and strengthen trust in payment platforms.
• Lead comprehensive code review processes for Java and Hibernate components to enhance code quality, reduce defects, and ensure consistent enforcement of domain rules for cards issuance, authorization, and settlements.
• Direct continuous integration and delivery pipelines for payment services, ensuring automated testing of transaction flows, regression validation for card features, and reliable deployments within the day shift hybrid model.
• Work with risk and compliance partners to incorporate regulatory and scheme requirements into cards and payments system design, supporting accurate reporting and auditable transaction histories.
• Mentor senior engineers on advanced Java and Hibernate patterns suited to high-volume payment systems, enabling them to build solutions that support rapid scaling of digital transaction channels.
• Ensure engineering roadmaps support enterprise goals by prioritizing enhancements that reduce payment latency, improve authorization success rates, and decrease operational incidents affecting cardholders and merchants.
• Maintain strong observability for payment platforms through logging and monitoring approaches tailored to Java services and Hibernate data operations, enabling fast detection and resolution of transaction issues.
• Coordinate environment and capacity planning with infrastructure teams to handle expected transaction peaks in cards and payments, focusing on hybrid deployment models that balance performance and cost.
• Drive collaborative incident reviews for production issues in payment flows, recording root causes in Java or Hibernate layers and ensuring preventative improvements are implemented across relevant systems.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience designing and delivering complex enterprise applications using Java and Hibernate, including proven capability to scale solutions for high-volume financial transactions.
• Deep domain knowledge of cards and payments, covering authorization flows, clearing, settlement, and dispute handling, to accurately translate business rules into technical implementations.
• Strong experience collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders across product, operations, and compliance to design payment features that satisfy regulatory expectations and customer experience goals.
• Proficiency in modern development practices such as code review, automated testing, and continuous integration to sustain reliability and quality for mission-critical payment platforms.
• Solid understanding of data modeling and performance tuning for relational persistence using Hibernate to ensure consistent and efficient handling of card and transaction records.
• Excellent communication and coordination skills to lead hybrid teams within the day shift schedule, ensuring priority alignment and smooth execution across locations.
• Demonstrated track record of delivering secure software solutions in financial services or similar regulated environments, emphasizing protection of transaction data and reduction of operational risk.
