Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
- The CORE Engineer will actively engage as a cloud developer, integrated with application teams throughout the entire cloud lifecycle, including initial migration, day two operations, and continuous reliability enhancements.
- The primary focus will be on pair programming alongside cloud champions within application teams, utilizing Terraform modules, pipelines, and platform services that have been established by the Cloud Infra Engineering, Cloud Automation, and Cloud Platform teams.
- Collaborate with application teams to develop their inaugural cloud Minimum Viable Product (MVP) on AWS, leveraging enterprise Terraform modules and GitLab pipelines.
- Facilitate knowledge transfer to minimize dependency.
- Engage in hands-on work with AWS technologies such as ECS, Fargate, Lambda, EC2, IAM roles, RDS, S3, EKS, SNS, SQS, and API Gateway.
- Possess a working knowledge of VPC and VPC endpoints; the network infrastructure is managed by Cloud Platform and Security.
- Proficiently utilize Terraform to consume enterprise modules and actively contribute enhancements to Cloud Infra Engineering through merge requests when patterns are lacking.
- Utilize GitLab to author and manage CI/CD pipelines, perform merge reviews, and onboard application teams onto the enterprise Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
- GitLab will serve as the primary source of record.
- Employ Python automation with boto3 and AWS APIs to create reusable tools that simplify and secure developer-friendly workflows around AWS services.
- Transform repetitive manual tasks into small Python utilities as a standard response, rather than escalating issues.
- Facilitate reliability enablement through a solid understanding of Resilience Hub, AWS Fault Injection Simulator, and Application Recovery Controller, or possess the capability to automate these via boto3, enabling application teams to leverage them without deep AWS expertise.
- Both automated solutions and manual knowledge are preferred.
- Contribute to hands-on labs and office hours, covering daily rotations and converting frequently asked questions into documentation or lab content.
- Conduct Dojo engagements by leading dedicated 4 to 6 week sessions with application teams new to cloud, guiding them through architecture forecasts, lab exercises, and their initial journey to production.
Technical Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience with AWS technologies including ECS, Fargate, Lambda, EC2, IAM, RDS, S3, and either EKS or ECS.
- Basic understanding of VPC and VPC endpoints.
- Experience in consuming Terraform modules.
- Preferred contributions to shared modules.
- Proficiency in Python for automation, including experience with boto3 and AWS SDK or REST API.
- Ability to produce reusable, tested code rather than ad-hoc scripts.
- Experience with GitLab for source control, CI/CD pipeline authoring, merge reviews, and managing protected branch workflows.
- Experience in direct collaboration with application or development teams.
- Familiarity with Agile Scrum methodologies and two-week sprints.
- Possession of one AWS Associate certification such as Solutions Architect Associate, Developer Associate, or SysOps Administrator Associate.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Experience in the banking or financial services sector.
- Experience in running or troubleshooting containerized workloads in ECS Fargate or EKS in a production environment.
- Exposure to AWS reliability services, such as Resilience Hub, Fault Injection Simulator, backup and restore, or cross-region disaster recovery (DR).
- Basic awareness of AWS costs, including reading cost reports and understanding tagging for cost allocation.
- Proficient in SQL to query cloud inventory or cost datasets.
- Experience in teaching, mentoring, or leading pair programming sessions, brown bag discussions, or workshops.
- Ability to create documentation that reduces the volume of future support tickets.
Preferred Skills:
- Technology->Cloud Platform->Microservices->AWS Lambda, Technology->Container Platform->Kubernetes, Technology->Cloud Platform->AWS Core services->Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud(EC2), Technology->Cloud Security->AWS - Infrastructure Security->AWS Virtual Private Cloud (VPCs), Technology->Cloud Platform->Amazon Webservices DevOps->AWS DevOps
