Clinical Coder

Brief Summary

• Deliver precise and timely clinical and Diagnosis-Related Group (DRG) coding for inpatient discharges and procedures. Partner with clinical teams, perform coding audits, and assist with associated administrative responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Carry out internal audits of coded cases to confirm accuracy and adherence to established coding standards. Complete DRG coding for inpatient, day surgery, dental, and endoscopy discharges within the required submission deadlines. Meet the required coding turnaround time, including completing coding within 14 days and maintaining an error rate below 4%. Evaluate medical records to identify incomplete or missing information necessary for correct coding. Coordinate with clinicians and other relevant healthcare professionals to secure clarifications for complex or unclear cases. Provide DRG codes and the required supporting clarifications to relevant authorities and insurance companies within the specified timeframe. Promote consistent application of approved coding procedures and standards. Perform additional related projects and other duties as directed by the Manager.

Requirements

• Degree or diploma in Nursing, Healthcare, or a related discipline, or an equivalent qualification. At least one year of coding experience in a hospital setting is preferred. Knowledge of ICD-10-AM coding standards. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with strong attention to detail. Strong organisational and interpersonal skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
