Job Description
Primary Responsibilities:
Product Design & Development:
- Lead the product design process, from concept creation to final prototype development, ensuring FOT approvals are met on schedule.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure designs meet customer specifications and production requirements.
- Coordinate the prototyping phase, reviewing and refining concepts for functionality and manufacturability.
- Develop mechanisms, components, and assemblies that align with both design specifications and production constraints.
- Ensure component lifecycle management throughout the design and development stages, balancing product performance with cost-effectiveness and manufacturability.
Design & Manufacturing Expertise:
- Create and refine 3D models of parts and assemblies using Solidworks or Creo, ensuring the designs are manufacturable and functional.
- Demonstrate hands-on expertise in Injection Molding, Sheet Metal Designs, and Castings to ensure high-quality and cost-effective manufacturing solutions.
- Utilize your plastic material knowledge to select the appropriate materials based on application criteria, mechanical properties, and production processes.
- Be aware of various manufacturing processes and integrate practical knowledge to ensure that design concepts are aligned with industry best practices.
- Work on tooling design as needed, ensuring that tooling is optimized for manufacturing and cost-effective production.
Simulation & Analysis:
- Conduct static FEM simulations (Finite Element Method) to verify the design integrity, ensuring that parts perform as expected under real-world conditions.
- Use simulation tools to predict product behavior, identifying potential design flaws early in the development phase.
- Apply GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) principles to all designs to ensure that the parts meet the specified tolerances and are consistent with industry standards.
Process & Lifecycle Management:
- Understand and implement ECN (Engineering Change Notices) and ECR (Engineering Change Requests) to ensure proper handling of design revisions and manufacturing process changes.
- Use SAP PDM (Product Data Management) for managing product data, ensuring proper revision control and seamless collaboration across teams.
- Ensure that designs meet regulatory standards and quality assurance procedures, maintaining high-quality output and adherence to deadlines.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Actively collaborate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality assurance, and supply chain teams to ensure smooth product development and handoff to production.
- Engage in continuous improvement initiatives to optimize product designs for both cost reduction and increased performance.
- Contribute to knowledge sharing within the organization by mentoring junior engineers and helping with the integration of new design techniques and technologies.
Qualifications & Experience:
YOU MUST HAVE:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field.
- At least 6 years of experience in Product Design, including the creation of concepts, mechanisms, prototypes, and obtaining FOT approvals.
- Hands-on experience with Injection Molding Design, Sheet Metal Designs, and Castings, demonstrating a solid understanding of each manufacturing process.
- Strong knowledge of plastic material selection, including understanding properties, material behavior, and selection criteria for various applications.
- Proficiency in 3D modeling, with extensive experience using SolidWorks or Creo.
- Practical experience applying FEM simulation, at least in static structural analysis, with the ability to use simulation tools effectively.
- GD&T knowledge and practical application is essential to ensure the right tolerances and specifications in designs.
